Davies Mayers was formed in March 1992 as a result of the break away of a group of Senior Managers from the Cheltenham office of KPMG. The firm started its days with 8 people operating from modest premises. The loyal support of many founding clients enabled the business within a couple of months to move to offices in St James’ Square. The next 4 years saw rapid growth, with a number of additional former clients of KPMG joining us, together with a new wave of clients who moved to us from other accounting firms in the area.
This growth resulted in a move in 1996 to larger premises at Pillar House where we remain to this day. That same year saw the arrival of Peter Perry to establish our VAT practice and he was joined by Andrew Baker a couple of years later.
In 1998 Nikki Smith, who had joined the firm as a newly qualified accountant at its outset, became our first internal promotion reflecting the increased demand for our services.
The next major phase in our development came in 2003 when Davies Mayers merged with Nigel Barnett & Co to form Davies Mayers Barnett LLP. Nigel had set up his own practice in 1985 and become the largest sole practitioner in the Cheltenham area. His skill set in the small business accounts arena blended perfectly with that of Davies Mayers, and enabled the combined firm to reach a wider audience.
In 2006 the firm secured the services of Mark Minchella as a new partner. Mark had originally been part of the KPMG office in Cheltenham and was one of the original employees. He had left the firm in the late 1990s to gain experience in the corporate finance department of Grant Thornton. After 8 years gaining valuable experience in transaction work throughout the west of England, he returned to the firm bringing these skills with him to strengthen the quality and range of our services.
In 2009, another long serving employee, Claire Clift, who joined us as a newly qualified accountant from a local firm in 1996, was admitted to the partnership to help service our growing client base.
More recently, in April 2016, Rob Hull joined the partnership. Again, Rob’s promotion was a reflection of his important contribution to the firm over many years and further expansion in the corporate department.
In 2017 we will celebrate our 25th anniversary in business and amongst our partners and senior management team, we are proud that we have over 360 years of cumulative business experience to offer our clients.
